Weight lifting and pregnancy

Why when we fall pregnant do we stop lifting. It's become such a dilemma as years ago we were told to put our feet up, eat for 2 and not to lift anything too heavy. Ofcourse if you've never weight lifted before trying to start a new lifting routine isn't ideal, however..

not only can it help you stay fit, but it can help you prepare your body for parenthood. “When done correctly and with the appropriate weight, strength training is quite beneficial, it will help with posture changes, protect your core and lower back, and help build or maintain endurance. This is something you will definitely need for labor.” studies show that women who weight lift actually labour quicker than the average female who doesn't. Studies also show that a female who lifts is less likely to require a c section in comparison to a female who doesn't.

Many people fear miscarriage however if you're given the all clear by your doctor why would you suddenly give it all up?

Weight lifting is proven to speed up labor, reduce the risk of gestational diabetes & will help to keep weight under control to avoid conditions such as pre-eclampsia. Planks are an incredible alternative to ab crunches while pregnant and keeping up your fitness will help you return back to your normal body shape.

When I had sonny, I was scared about what was about to happen to my body & I feared I'd lose all my hard work to my new pregnancy bod.

5 years later and I'm stronger, happier and healthier for continuing my journey while pregnant. Not many people can take a spin class at 12pm and welcome a baby who was a solid 6.7lbs at 36 weeks pregnant. (Thank god I didn't go to 40 weeks+ because I'm sure he would of been an 11lb baby!)

Whatever you decide to do when pregnant make sure you have advice from a medical profession. I promise you, you'll have more energy, feel less stressed & continue to feel yourself.

Pregnancy should be enjoyed, it should be magical & it sure as hell shouldn't be daunting.

I've been there, I've done it. I understand. 💖
