'Disordered eating is defined as 'Abnormal eating behaviours such as skipping meals, binge eating, restricting certain food types/groups, of fasting which represent a deviation from the cultural norm, accompanied by a sense of shame, guilt, or anxiety, or other negative mood state in relation to eating.”
Is this you? Do you stick to healthy eating in the week and have 'naughty' weekends? Do you over eat in the evening? Are you a binger? Turns out a lot of us are. Did you know 70% of women in todays society are said to have an unhealthy relationship with food. We live in a society that is absolutely controlled by the way we look. Social media platforms such as instagram and tiktok are constantly hitting us in the face with fitness girls, Abs, round bums, tiny waists. You name it, i've heard it all.
A small 2018 study found a direct connection between time spent on social media, negative body image, and disordered eating. WOW.
This was especially true if participants were scrolling through appearance-related content, like the account of a fitness instructor or model on Instagram. WHY DO WE DO IT TODAY OURSELVES?!
So lets ask ourselves this.. Do we compare ourselves? Do we have a fitness inspiration? Do we follow certain fitness models or influencers because we wanna look like them? if you answered 'yes' to any of the following then im with you!
So, my advice to you today is to remember this. You will never be that 'girl' on tiktok. You will NEVER be that fitness influencer on insta. However, you can be the best version of you. You can be leaner if you want to be. You can be more muscular if you want to be. You just have to work hard in the gym, give yourself a break and give yourself time. You need to focus on being the best version of you. Unfollow all the fitness girls and influencers. Take time to learn how to effectively diet or grow muscle. Do it properly and you'll reap the rewards & the results.
